A sulfur flame does not generate a unique infrared (IR) signature that can be distinguished from standard background infrared energy. Therefore, a traditional IR flame detector will not detect the sulfur fire.

硫磺燃烧时不会产生典型的红外属性光波。因此也无法使用标准的红外火焰探测器来预警监测硫磺燃烧的火焰。


Because sulfur combustion does not produce water vapor a standard ultraviolet (UV) flame detector will not work.

由于硫磺燃烧时不会有水蒸气,所以采用紫外(UV)火焰探测器是无法检测到硫磺火焰的。


The best option for detecting sulfur flames is the Det-Tronics X2200 UV flame detector with a special high sensitivity molybdenum (moly) UV tube module, which has an increased spectral range of 1850 to 2650 angstroms, well suited to detecting burning sulfur.

For example, the corrosiveness of sulfur can damage nearby metal. If a conveyor belt is used in transporting sulfur, the rollers under the belt can create friction as they become corroded by the sulfur. The friction can cause a fire.

例如硫磺的腐蚀性会损坏接触的金属,如果是用传送机运送硫磺,在传送带下面的被腐蚀的链条可能在运送过程中有可能产生火花,进而引发火灾。

Detecting a sulfur fire is not simple. Very difficult to see with the human eye or a camera, burning sulfur generates a low intensity, blue flame that is a source of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

硫磺火焰的检测不是一件容易的工作。通过人眼或摄像头很难发现硫磺火焰,因为硫磺燃烧只会生成低强度的蓝色火焰,这种蓝色火焰会发出紫外线光波。


Sulfur produces a low temperature fire. To detect the heat from a sulfur flame, a heat detector would need to be directly next to the flame, making linear heat  detectors a poor choice for sulfur fire detection. But due
to the corrosive nature of sulfur, any detection technology must be far enough away not to be damaged.

硫磺燃烧放热低。所以如果要从温度角度来监测硫磺火焰,必须靠近硫磺,并布置线性温感火灾探测系统。但由于硫磺的腐蚀性,又同时要求任何被使用的探测设备必须与它保持足够多的距离。


A sulfur flame does not generate a unique infrared (IR) signature that can be distinguished from standard background infrared energy. Therefore, a traditional IR flame detector must rely on detecting secondary hydrocarbon fires ignited by the sulfur fire, which is not an acceptable fire detection solution.

Sulfur combustion does not produce water vapor. Therefore, the standard UV flame detector, which uses a nickelbased sensing element, will not work. The standard nickel sensor ultraviolet tube detects radiation only in a spectral range from 1850 to 2450 angstroms — the water-vapor UV range

To detect sulfur flames effectively, a UV detector using a molybdenum (moly) sensing element is recommended.

Moly-based sensors have an increased spectral range of 1850 to 2650 angstroms, well suited to detecting burning sulfur. Due to the moly sensor’s increased spectral range, it is susceptible to false alarming in certain artificial lighting. Consult the factory for recommendations on how to minimize this issue.

钼基传感器将可探测波长延伸到1850到2650埃的范围,可以满足测量硫磺火焰的要求。由于增加了紫外的被探测波长区域,所以也可能同时增加误报率如有人工电弧的场合。所以现场的安装环境还需要考虑干扰能源的因素。


Det-Tronics produces the X2200M ultraviolet flame detector with an optional moly UV tube module that provides a detection range for a 1-foot by 1-foot sulfur fire of 50 feet on-axis and 25 feet off-axis (when the very high sensitivity option is chosen).

美国迪创Det-Tronics专用型号X2200M是增加了钼基传感器的单频紫外火焰探测器,对于1*1英尺的硫磺火烟,在中轴线可以达到50英尺的探测距离,边线可达25英尺的探测距离(探测器设置为极高灵敏度)。


If the user chooses the high-sensitivity setting, the X2200M has a detection range of 35 feet on-axis and 17.5 feet off-axis to a 1-foot by 1-foot sulfur fire. For a larger fire, the detection range is proportionally larger.

对于1*1英尺的硫磺火烟,在中轴线可以达到35英尺的探测距离,边线可达17.5英尺的探测距离(探测器设置为高灵敏度)

For example, for a 2-foot by 2-foot fire the range of a detector at the high-sensitivity setting is approximately 70 feet on-axis and 35 feet off-axis.

The problem of detecting burning sulfur is compounded when it is stored in large piles that have irregularities that may cause the flames to be hidden from the detector. Therefore, careful detector placement is essential when designing the flame detection system.

如果硫磺被存储在长的管道或筒状类容器内采用火焰探测器进行检测就会有遇到问题。对于这种情况,我们推荐采用防爆烟感进行有效探测。(Det-Tronics的U5005, U5006, U5015, U5016防爆烟感探测器)
